Job Title:                     Assistant Professor – Computer Science Youth Outreach Coordinator
Location:                     Sheridan, WY
Type:                            Designated Part-Time (9 month contract)
 
Job Summary:
           
The computer science (CS) youth outreach coordinator serves as an active participant in the introduction and instruction of CS, coding, and computational thinking in the local elementary and junior high schools. The position will require working with teachers and administrators to implement CS curriculum in grades K-8. The coordinator will engage in ongoing professional development with the goal of coaching teachers in the implementation of CS. Additional responsibilities include active membership on applicable CS committees, collaboration with secondary and college CS instructors to ensure vertical articulation, and periodic reporting. Coordinating the CS (K-16) Professional Learning Community and community outreach. This position is located at SCSD2 schools.
 
Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in a computing related field or education.
  • Master’s degree in elementary education, educational technology, or a related field; current Wyoming teaching license, and computer science endorsement are preferred.
  • Teaching and coaching experience; elementary preferred
  • Experience with computer science, coding, computational thinking, and classroom application

  • Effectively communicates technical ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Passionate about programming and introducing people to programming.
  • Ability to promote programming through demonstrations, workshops, articles or presentations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in elementary education and CS applications appropriate to youth.
  • Collaborate with K-8 educators to develop and refine age-appropriate computing curriculum that aligns with educational standards.
  • Provide professional development and coaching for teachers implementing CS & IT curriculum.
  • Create instructional resources, lesson plans, and assessment tools that make computing engaging.
  • Ensure curricula meet state and national CS and IT education standards.
  • Organize and manage up to three week-long summer camps focused on computing skills and concepts.
  • Coordinate out-of-school computing events in partnership with college instructors and industry professionals.
  • Engage with diverse student populations to ensure equitable access to computing education.
  • Represent the organization at community events and conferences.
  • Maintain detailed records of program activities and participant data.
  • Prepare reports documenting program outcomes and impact.
  • Assist with grant writing and funding proposals for program sustainability.
 
Job Duties:
 
  • Provide on-site coaching, professional development, and implementation support primarily in K-8 schools, including promoting K-12 computing programs through mentoring, presentations, workshops and clubs
  • Engage in training to stay current in the field
  • Develop computer science related curriculum and ensure vertical alignment and program goals
  • Committee work and other institutional responsibilities, including community outreach and
  • coordinating computer science professional learning community (K-16)
