ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Transit Fleet Maintenance Mechanic plays a key role in keeping our community on the move by ensuring the safety and reliability of a professional fleet of Transit vehicles through Goose Creek Transit. This hands-on position involves performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, while collaborating with a supportive team. Ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, this role offers a chance to apply your technical skills while making a direct impact on the lives of older adults and individuals who rely on accessible transportation.
This job is part-time - 24 hours or less a week. Hours are approximately from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays. Pay is $15 an hour.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:


Title: Transit Fleet Maintenance Mechanic
Location: 2114 Eastside 2ndStreet, Sheridan, WY 82801
Reports to: Transportation Manager


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


Facility, Equipment & Repair Maintenance
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on transit fleet vehicles.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform on-site repairs when necessary.
  • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and schematics.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance facility and tools.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the organization's goals and operations.
Documentation and Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with Bus Operators, Transportation Specialists, and Managers to prioritize and complete work orders.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Coachable with a willingness to learn and adapt to a changing workflow.
  • Knowledge of bus parts and transit vehicles, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components with Custom, Ford, and Dodge chassis components.
  • Skilled in diagnostics, troubleshooting, and use of technical manuals and schematics.
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools, repair equipment, and maintenance software.
  • Effective communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain accurate maintenance records.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.regularly, and occasionally up to 75lbs. with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in confined spaces, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, and reaching to access vehicle components.
  • Visual and auditory ability required to detect mechanical issues and ensure safety standards.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to fumes, noise, and vibration commonly found in a shop setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in automotive preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in fleet maintenance preferred, preferably with transit vehicles.
  • Familiarity with bus parts, Ford, and Dodge chassis systems preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and critical thinking skills under pressure.
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
