Assistant Teacher

At the Sheridan County YMCA, we’re more than a workplace—we’re a community dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We’re looking for a caring, energetic Assistant Teacher to help create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children and families.

What You’ll Do

As an Assistant Teacher, you’ll support the Childcare Director and classroom team by:

  • Assisting in planning and leading fun, age-appropriate activities and lessons
  • Creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all children
  • Supervising children and ensuring proper staff-to-child ratios
  • Building strong, respectful relationships with children and parents
  • Communicating effectively with families about their child’s development
  • Maintaining accurate program records and documentation
  • Supporting program events, family nights, and YMCA initiatives
  • Ensuring safety through proper supervision, transportation practices, and adherence to policies
What We’re Looking For
  • At least 18 years old
  • Experience working with children in a developmental setting (preferred)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development

Required within 90 days of hire (and maintained):

  • CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications
  • Alarm/Emergency Procedures training
