Ground Support Equipment Mechanic

Bighorn Airways is seeking to fill two positions for Ground Support Equipment Maintenance. Bighorn Airways is a diverse aviation company, operating aircraft on USG special operations contracts in Alaska and the Lower 48, as well as overseas.  Additionally, Bighorn Airways operates a busy Part 145 MRO, specializing in DHC-8, CASA 212 and Dornier 228 maintenance, and special mission modifications and avionics.

 

Bighorn Airways has been a leader in the Wyoming aviation community for over 70 years and has been conducting smokejumper and par cargo operations for over 30 years.   All positions offered are based in Sheridan, WY.

 

The GSE mechanic will maintain aircraft ground support equipment and assist in facility maintenance.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Track scheduled inspections and maintenance of GSE equipment and maintain records.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and management of BHA on GSE issues.
  • Properly and safely operate equipment and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Serve internal and external customer needs for GSE maintenance. (such as SkyWest Airlines)
  • Maintain the GSE shop in a clean and organized manner at all times.
  • Prioritize projects and communicate return to service estimates based on labor and parts lead times.
  • Arrive at 0530 on snow days to remove snow from parking lot and near hangar doors.
  • Work overtime as required to ensure urgent repair needs are met.
  • Accomplish minor and routine building maintenance and coordinate with contractors when maintenance is outsourced.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong work ethic and ability to take ownership of areas of responsibility.
  • Solid oral and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn and navigate the labor and scheduled maintenance tracking software.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and be insurable by company insurance policy. CDL a plus.
  • Excellent diesel and gasoline engine troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and reach back to manufacturer technical support if required.
  • Ability to read safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Continually look for opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce material and fiscal waste.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED/Technical Certificate
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, hydraulics and refueling trucks.
